PSYCHO YEAH

Wow! Just got back from the Static-X show. It was REALLY fun. Reminds me how much I miss going to live shows. Pedro and I BART-ed it there (and back!) and ate at Burger King. It was pretty close, since arrived there at the destination BART station at about 7:30 and the show started at 8. We picked up the will call and it was all good! There were four bands: Blood Simple, Asasino, American Head Charge and STATIC-X. We arrived halfway through the first set, unfortunately they were my favorite of the openers. The place was a small club, looking a lot like the lower section of the Catwalk club back in Seattle. The club was called Slims. Asasino was todos en espanol, pero no se que los hablan. American Head Charge seemed like one of those massively overproduced bands that didnt have enough actual musical interest to hold someones attention (bleh). Static-X though, did an excellent job of using the lights and the stage format to their advantage. Wayne was excellent and the rest of the band definitely played well. There were sooo many songs that I didnt know, but they encouraged me to go out and buy the NEW album, Lets Start a War. There was this @#$@# guy who kept elbowing me in the head and screaming AT StaticX in a really ridiculously rude way. He got on my nerves for that and also for when he wouldn't relent after his girlfriend told him to stop. Theres always someone there to ruin it, it seems. Anyway, Pedro pulled me away right as they were wrapping up and we ran through the mosh pit all the way back to the BART station and made it home on the last bus. PHEW. Time to go to bed so I can present at the lab tomorrow morning!!

[Week 2]

Week 2 has not been as good as week 1. At the end of Week 1 we visited UC Santa Cruz and its a really pretty setting (in the woods!). We got a lecture about computational biology which was interesting. They have a new engineering program there and want to start a synthetic biology program soon !! Maybe if I'm lucky enough to stay with CITRIS at UCB then I can work with that program, since these schools collaborate pretty often on research projects.

I've been feeling really sick and homesick as well this week. Didn't make it out of the dorm room too much unfortunately. Been working mostly out of the laptop. However, I did watch Donnie Darko. That movie is epic. Well I'm talking to Shanna every night now and that is sooo nice.

This weekend I'll be going to SF. And I did my laundry, hell yeah!! And my Kil-Jaedan paladin is level 33 whoo-baby. Just gotta keep working, and keeping focused. On research, that is.

[Week 1]

Wow week 1 was fun. Everything is so different here: the skies are sunny (but not hot), the people are tan (but not preoccupied), and the dorm has free meals (and you can pack bag lunch too). I think I'm going to love it here. Oh and theres a **real** beach nearby.

There are 20+ people in my program, and I want to learn a lot of the names. We all live on the same floor in the dorm, "International House" (I-House). Twice a week we have 2.5-hr GRE prep classes and once a week we have a 1-hr group meeting. Some of them are really friendly and I don't think we have any horribly difficult people here (thank GOD).

Heres a link to the lab group. They have a lot of other projects.

The lab is pretty cool. I discovered I'm working with 2 Ph.D graduates and the professor, along with 5 ither undergrads. My project is related to MEG brain imaging and another project that I'm not working on is related to a "fall detector" that will report if an elderly person falls over. The lab room is nice but I usually use my laptop cuz not all the accounts and software are set up yet.

Welcome

I'm at UC Berkeley now. I'll be here for now until July 29th, at which point I'm flying back home to Seattle. This is one of the ways that I'll update my woman while I'm away. Hopefully this'll be updated every day or so.

Plans include linking video feeds and still images taken either with my own webcam or with a digital camera checked out from a library here at UCB.
