Fairy Godmother
Just had a strange meeting with the Beaz at lunch. When I went down for the BBQ, she ambushed me at the table. We talked and she gave me the impression that I actually have a chance at ... getting into UCB EECS. Wow....!!!!!!! I had pretty much assumed it to be a vague sort of dream that I would have to align my next 12-18mo to have a shot at, but she made it almost sound viable.
First off, she told me not to go into (UCB) BioE if I would already much prefer EE. Although many projects are interdisciplinary, she said for me to stick with my passion.
Furthermore, she hinted that I should wrap up my BS this fall and TAKE OUT A LOAN because she said that for an engineering student it would be a "good idea." This sounds like a hint ... I need more info from these admin people before committing to such a financial responsibility, though.
She asked me for my GPA ... I said 3.5 in UWEE ... and she said that was OK. Apparently they respect a 3.5GPA from UWEE since its a "good school."
She told me to get an 800 on GRE math (and ALSO to take it BEFORE leaving here)
She told me to sign up for a program (adepa?) that promotes hispanics, etc. for sponsored campus visits to places like UCB.
She told me to pick WHICH faculty I want to do research with. Compare lists derived from the UCBEECS and UWEE departments and make a serious decision about who I want to work with most.
She told me to maintain a good relationship with Sheila Humphreys.
She told me to get a letter of rec from a UWEE faculty that is respected here. Ask Sheila for a list of respected UWEE faculty members.
... and of course I will also apply for the EDGE conference so that I can come back in the fall for a short bit.
Whoah. Is this possible ...
